Ohio Fusion Club Soccer Coach Indicted on Sex Abuse Charges
Read Below: Child sex abuse victim lawyer Brian Kent discusses the legal options available to youth sports sex abuse victims and their families.
A soccer coach for the Ohio Fusion club was arrested in February for allegedly sexually abusing a player on his team.
34-year-old Scotty West has been indicted on two counts of sexual battery and one count each of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, pandering obscenity involving a minor, and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies began an investigation on January 20 after receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault from two months prior, according to court documents.
Court records say that deputies interviewed a male juvenile who told them that West, his soccer club coach, sexually assaulted him. These records also mention a sleepover at West’s condominium, but further details were redacted.

Lawsuits For Sexual Abuse by Youth Sports Coaches
Attorney contributor Brian Kent is a former sex crimes prosecutor who now serves as a sex abuse victims attorney. We’ve asked Brian to discuss the legal options available to victims of sexual abuse by youth sports coaches:
Youth sports organizations are extremely valuable to their communities, as they provide children with a fun activity that fosters teamwork and communication skills. However, it’s vital to make sure that the children in these programs are safe. Sadly, sexual predators are often found in organizations that involve working with kids.
While most youth sports coaches are honorable and trustworthy members of their communities, there have also been cases of coaches sexually abusing players on their teams. When this happens, it goes without saying that the coach must face criminal penalties for the trauma they’ve caused. But it’s also important to investigate the organization for possible negligence.
Some cases of sexual abuse in youth sports are preventable and may not have happened if not for negligence. For example, a youth sports organization might be considered negligent if others in the organization had ignored previous allegations of sexual misconduct involving the coach who was arrested. In cases of negligence, youth sports sex abuse victims and their parents may have a case for a lawsuit.
