Minneapolis Police Investigating Shooting at Aqua Nightclub
Minneapolis police are investigating a shooting that left three people wounded at the Aqua Nightclub & Lounge early Monday morning. Police say that three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries during a shooting inside of the nightclub located on First Avenue North.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, shots were fired in the club at around 1:43 a.m. on Monday. After arriving, officers found two people who had suffered gunshot wounds. Those two victims were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center and a third victim with a gunshot wound arrived at the hospital via private transport.
Investigators say that the suspect fled the scene and is still on the run. Investigators also collected evidence and interviewed several people at the crime scene.
On Monday, Aqua Nightclub released a statement saying that they would be closed until at least sometime next week while they reevaluate their security protocol.
Can Nightclub Owners Be Held Liable For Shootings?
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of CrimeVictim.Attorney helps nightclub shooting victims and their families find justice and financial compensation for the damages they’ve suffered. We’ve asked him for some input into nightclub owner liability for shootings, stabbings, and other violence:
Safety needs to be a top priority for any bar or nightclub owner. All business owners are required to keep their premises safe, and this includes protecting their properties from the risk of preventable violent crime. When a nightclub owner fails to meet these legal safety requirements and a shooting occurs as a result, the victims and their families may have the right to file a lawsuit against the club owner.
For example, a nightclub owner could be considered negligent if they failed to have adequate security measures, such as security guards and metal detectors for weapons.
Determining negligence will require a careful overview of the details of a shooting case. If you or someone you love has recently been injured or killed in a nightclub shooting, you can learn more about your family’s legal options by speaking to one of our experienced crime victim attorneys.
