Can Bar Owners Be Liable for Shootings on Their Properties?
Brian Kent is an Attorney Contributor at crimevictim.Attorney who helps preventable crime victims seek justice through lawsuits.
“One of the most important responsibilities a bar owner has is to make sure their patrons and employees are as safe as possible while on their property. To the best of their abilities, bar owners must take precautions and provide adequate security to their customers. Essentially, a bar owner must take into account any previous crime violence that has occurred in their area. Then they must adjust their security measures based off of the previous crimes in order to prevent future hazards”, Mr. Kent stated.
“If a bar owner fails to provide adequate security based off of the surrounding areas crime rate, and something like a bar shooting does occur due to their negligent security, then the owner may be liable for the crime that took place”, explained Mr. Kent.
Each bar shooting case is different. Therefore, if you have any personal questions about a similar instance you should discuss your case and legal options with an experienced crime victim lawyer.
