Milford Police Investigate Teacher’s Aide For Sexual Assault Allegations

Police in Milford have begun investigating accusations that a teacher’s aide from a special needs school sexually assaulted multiple female students. The identity of that teacher has not yet been released, as he has not yet been charged with a crime. But in a report by News 8 WTNH, police reportedly told reporters that they expect the man to be charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and indecent exposure.

Two 14-year-old girls from the Boys & Girls Village accuse the aide of sending sexually suggestive text messages, exposing his genitals to them, and touching at least one of them inappropriately.

The teacher was suspended without pay following the accusations and school officials notified the State Department of Children and Families. Police told News 8 WTNH that an arrest is imminent.

Legal Recourse For Survivors of Child Sex Abuse by School Employees

Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com has made it his mission to help the survivors of sexual assault speak out and find justice for the trauma they’ve suffered. Here are some of his thoughts on the legal options available to those who have been sexually assaulted by teachers and other school staff:

Schools should be safe and enriching environments for our kids, but this is unfortunately not always the case. In any area that involves working with kids, it’s important to be aware that sexual predators may attempt to gain positions of trust in order to abuse children. We regularly see this with cases of teachers and other school employees sexually abusing students.

When a school employee sexually abuses a student, it’s important to make sure that the victims and other students get the support they need, that the perpetrator is arrested, and that, if applicable, the school is held accountable for any negligence which may have enabled the abuse to occur. For example, a school could be considered negligent for failing to run a background check before hiring an employee with a history of sexual misconduct.

If you or your child has been sexually abused by a school employee, you can learn more about your family’s legal options by speaking with an experienced sexual abuse survivors lawyer.
