Chad Beery, a teacher with Mesquite Independent School District, has been arrested in Rockwall County amidst grave allegations of child pornography, according to CBS News. Court records reveal that he faced two charges in connection with these serious offenses. After posting a $750,000 bond, Beery was released from custody on November 6.
Beery has been employed at Mesquite Academy, an alternative education campus for middle and high school students, since 2018, located at 2704 Motley Dr, Mesquite, TX 75150. In a notice released on the school's website, district officials announced his suspension without pay as an investigation by the Texas Education Agency unfolds. The district confirmed that they were unaware of any prior allegations against Beery.
While the specifics of the allegations regarding Beery remain unclear, there is no confirmation on whether they involve students from Mesquite Academy. CBS News Texas has reached out to the Rockwall Police Department for additional information.
As of Monday morning, Beery’s name still appeared on Mesquite Academy’s online staff directory, designated as an Academy Option Teacher. The district has opted not to provide further comments, citing privacy laws.
This arrest is part of a disturbing trend, with eight educators and coaches across North Texas facing disciplinary actions or arrests since early October. Six of these individuals have been charged with felonies related to sexual misconduct, including cases in Mansfield, Anna, and Wylie. Additionally, former Celina ISD teacher Caleb Elliott stands accused of secretly photographing boys in a locker room.

As cases of sexual misconduct involving teachers continue to surface, understanding the legal avenues available for victims is vital. In this interview, experienced Texas sexual abuse lawyer Anjali Nigam discusses the options for individuals affected by such situations, the importance of documentation, and the potential for civil claims against both the perpetrators and the school districts involved.
Editor Darla Medina: With cases like Chad Beery's coming to light, what legal options are available for victims of sexual abuse by teachers?
Attorney Anjali Nigam: Victims have several avenues they can explore. They can pursue civil claims against the individual teacher and potentially the school district if negligence is proven. This can involve filing a lawsuit for damages related to emotional distress, medical expenses, and any other harm suffered.
Medina: What evidence is typically needed to support such claims?
Nigam: Documentation is crucial. Victims should gather any records, such as communications with the school, medical reports, or eyewitness accounts. It's also beneficial to have legal representation to navigate the complexities of the case effectively.
Medina: Are there any limitations on when victims can come forward?
Nigam: Yes, there are statutes of limitations that apply, but Texas has laws that may provide exceptions, especially in cases involving minors. It’s vital for victims to act quickly in seeking legal advice.
