5 Women Accused Massage Therapist Jarrod Huffman of Sexual Assault

Madison massage therapist Jarrod Huffman is facing new criminal charges after four more clients have come forward with allegations of sexual assault during massages.

Huffman was first arrested in September on one count of 4th-degree sexual contact without consent after one woman reported that he had sexually assaulted her. Four more women have come forward since then, and Huffman now faces five counts of 4th-degree sexual assault.

The name of the business where Huffman worked has not been released, but it is located in the 6700 block of Odana Road in Madison. The owner of this business has reportedly cooperated with the police.

Legal Recourse for Massage Therapist Sexual Assault Victims

Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com is a former sex crimes prosecutor who has represented several victims of massage therapist sexual assault in lawsuits against massage therapy businesses like Massage Envy. We’ve asked Brian to weigh in with some of his thoughts on the legal rights of these victims:

In the massage therapy industry, trust is paramount. Massage therapists are trusted to be alone with clients who are in vulnerable positions. If untrustworthy people are hired as massage therapists, there is a high risk of abuse for clients. The industry has widespread issues with massage therapists sexually abusing clients, with hundreds of incidents reported throughout the country.

The owners of massage therapy businesses have a legal duty to make sure their employees are trustworthy and their clients are safe. When a massage therapist is reported for sexually assaulting a client, the business should be investigated to determine if they failed to live up to this legal duty because of negligence.

For example, a massage therapy business owner could be considered negligent for the sexual assault of a client if they had hired a massage therapist who had a history of sexual misconduct.
