Legal Recourse For Victims of Bar Shootings
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of CrimeVictim.Attorney helps violent crime victims recover financial compensation in civil court. Here are some of his thoughts on bar owner liability for shootings, stabbings, and other violent crimes:
Bar owners have a legal duty to make sure their properties are safe from preventable dangers which could result in injuries to their customers, employees, and neighbors. Adequate security measures for reducing the risk of violent crime are a part of this legal duty. When a shooting, stabbing, or other violent incident breaks out at a bar because of inadequate security or another form of negligence, the victims of that crime may have grounds for a lawsuit against the bar owner. Additionally, the families of victims killed in such incidents may have grounds for a wrongful death lawsuit.
