Legal Options Available To Victims Injured in Bar Shootings
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of https://CrimeVictim.Attorney works closely with victims and their families injured or killed in bar shootings. Mr. Kent has offered to share his insight on the legal options available to these victims and their families.
All commercial property owners have a legal duty of protecting their patrons and employees from any preventable dangers. In order to do so, property owners must provide adequate security on their premises. If a property owner fails to provided adequate security, and a crime such as a shooting occurs due to their negligence, then the victims may have grounds for a lawsuit against the property owner.
Additionally, in order for a property owner to be held liable for violent crime on their property, the crime must have been reasonably foreseeable. For instance, if a shooting occurs at a property with a prior history of violent crime and no security improvements were made, then the shooting may be deemed reasonably foreseeable. Overall, not only does security need to be considered inadequate, but in order for a property owner to be seen as liable for a crime, it must be deemed reasonably foreseeable.
