Las Vegas Police Search for More Victims After Dr. Michel Rantissi Jr. Charged with Sexually Assaulting a Patient

Police in Las Vegas are searching for additional victims after Dr. Michael Rantissi was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a patient at one of three Advanced Manual Therapy Institute locations, which are owned by him and his wife.

According to an arrest report, a woman told police investigators that Rantissi sexually assaulted her during a session for Pelvic Floor Therapy on September 5. This woman was a massage therapist at one of the three clinics.

The accuser spoke with another doctor at the office about Rantissi’s alleged sexual misconduct. This doctor helped her file a complaint against Rantissi with the state licensing board. She quit her job at the clinic a few days after filing this complaint.

According to investigators, Rantissi denied the accusations when they questioned him on September 24. However, he agreed to take a polygraph test a few days later and changed his story at that point. He told investigators that he helped the accuser and made her “feel better because she was single and he is a giver.”

Rantissi was arrested last Thursday, October 4 and charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of open and gross lewdness.

Police believe that there may be other victims out there and are currently reaching out to employees, patients, and other possible victims of Rantissi. Other victims and anyone else with information regarding this case have been asked to call Detective Salkoff at (702) 633-1769.

What Are Your Legal Options After Being Sexually Assaulted by a Doctor?

Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com represents victims of sexual assault in civil lawsuits and has experience representing multiple victims in lawsuits against doctors. Brian has offered to share some of his knowledge regarding the legal rights of those who have been sexually assaulted by their doctors:

We all trust that our doctors will provide us with the care we need and treat us in a respectful manner. But sadly, in professions that are built on trust, there is always the potential for predators to exploit that trust. The medical field has seen widespread reports of doctors and other medical professionals exploiting the trust of their patients in order to sexually assault them. These predators must be held accountable for the trauma they’ve caused.

Filing reports with medical licensing boards and the police are important first steps for victims of doctor sexual assault who are looking for justice. However, the options for legal recourse often do not end here. In many cases, these victims may have grounds for a lawsuit against their doctor and the medical facility where the assault occurred.

Doctors who sexually assault their patients don’t only harm their victims – they harm the community at large by damaging the trust citizens have for medical professionals. Seeing these doctors brought to justice with criminal charges can help provide relief for victims, but criminal courts often fail to directly address the needs of victims. A civil lawsuit can provide compensation for the personal and economic damages these survivors suffer as a result of being assaulted.

If you or a loved one has been sexually assaulted by a doctor or another medical professional, you can learn more about your legal rights by speaking with one of our experienced sexual assault victims attorneys in a free consultation.
