Former Osceola County School Employee Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

A 58-year-old man from St. Cloud, Florida, has been taken into custody following serious allegations of possessing and distributing child pornography, according to ClickOrlando. Mark Harden, a former employee of Zenith Accelerated Learning Academy, located at 2218 E Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, Kissimmee, FL 34744, faces multiple charges, including promotion of sexual conduct by a child, unlawful use of a communication device, and ten counts of possession of sexual conduct by a child, according to the St. Cloud Police Department.

St. Cloud Teacher Charged with Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography

On October 3, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Harden’s residence on Georgia Avenue. Investigators discovered electronic devices containing hundreds of images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children. The investigation, which began in August, was prompted by a tip received by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and later referred to the police department’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit.

Allegations Include Secret Photography of Students

The arrest affidavit reveals that Harden is accused of not only sharing child sexual abuse material online but also secretly photographing children and adults without their consent. Disturbingly, some of the images reportedly included children from the school where Harden worked, accompanied by inappropriate and troubling remarks.

Harden Held on $26,000 Bond Following Arrest

Following his arrest, Harden is being held on a $26,000 bond while the investigation continues.

Law enforcement officials urge anyone who believes they or their child may have been impacted to come forward. Concerned individuals can contact the St. Cloud Police Department at 407-891-6700, extension 6726, and reference report No. 25-004286.

Legal Paths for Families Following Teacher Misconduct

When allegations of abuse by an educator come to light, families are often left grappling with how to protect their children and seek accountability. In the aftermath of such cases, understanding legal options becomes a vital step in addressing the harm and ensuring justice. Attorney Michael Haggard, a seasoned advocate in child sexual abuse cases, shares practical guidance on how families can navigate this challenging process and hold all responsible parties accountable.

Editor Darla Medina: When families discover their child may have been a victim in a case like this, what immediate steps should they take?

Attorney Michael Haggard: The first and most important step is to ensure the child’s safety and well-being. Families should contact law enforcement immediately to report any suspicions and cooperate fully with the investigation. At the same time, it’s important to seek counseling or professional support for the child to address any emotional or psychological impact.

Medina: When it comes to legal action, what options are available to these families?

Haggard: Families can pursue both criminal and civil avenues. The criminal case is handled by the state, but families also have the right to file a civil lawsuit against the perpetrator and potentially the institution, such as the school, if negligence played a role in enabling the abuse. Civil cases focus on holding all responsible parties accountable and seeking damages to help with recovery and long-term care for the victim.

Medina: Can schools be held liable in situations like this?

Haggard: Absolutely. If a school failed to conduct proper background checks, ignored warning signs, or did not have adequate policies in place to protect children, they can be held accountable for negligence. It’s critical for families to work with an attorney experienced in these matters to investigate whether the institution fulfilled its duty to protect students.

Medina: For families unsure about the process, what should they look for when choosing legal representation?

Haggard: Experience is key. Look for attorneys who specialize in child sexual abuse cases and have a track record of success. Compassion and understanding are also important, as these cases are deeply personal and sensitive. Families need someone who can provide both strong advocacy and empathetic support.
