Tiger Kim’s Tae Kwon Do Instructor Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges

A former instructor at Tiger Kim’s Tae Kwon Do in High Point has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing three young girls who were students at the business. 23-year-old Marcos David Medina-Ramirez turned himself in on Wednesday, June 26 and was charged with four counts of statutory rape of a child younger than 15.

According to the police, Medina-Ramirez sexually assaulted the three girls at the business between May 2018 and June 2019.

An attorney for the martial arts studio said in a statement that the business learned of the allegations against Medina-Ramirez in May and fired him the next day.

On Wednesday, High Point police said in a news release that the instructor might face an additional 14 counts of statutory sex offense.

Medina-Ramirez faced a judge on Thursday and was told that he could face up to life in prison if convicted on all charges. He is currently in jail with his bond set at $2 million.

Legal Options For Martial Arts Sexual Abuse Victims and Their Families

Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com represents sex abuse victims and their families in civil cases. Here is Brian with some general information concerning the legal rights of those who have been sexually abused at martial arts studios and other businesses:

In fields where adults are working with children, it’s extremely important to make sure that all employees are trustworthy. Sadly, sexual predators are often found in positions of trust in these fields. The owners of these businesses have a legal duty to do all in their power to keep the children who patronize their businesses safe.

When an instructor at a business like a martial arts or dance studio is accused of sexually abusing students, both the instructor and the business itself should be investigated. In some of these cases, the abuse may have been prevented if not for negligence by the business, such as hiring an employee who had a history of sexual misconduct.

When negligence is found to have played a role in allowing sexual abuse to occur, the business could potentially be held liable if the victims and their families file a lawsuit.

If you or a loved one has been sexually abused by a martial arts instructor or an employee of a similar business, you can learn more about your legal options by discussing your case with an experienced sex abuse victims attorney.
