Can Strip Club Owners Be Sued For Shootings and Other Violence?

Brian Kent of CrimeVictim.Attorney helps victims of preventable violent crime get the financial compensation they deserve from negligent property owners. We’ve asked him to add some general information on bar owner liability for violent incidents:

Premises liability laws are designed to keep our communities safe by requiring all property owners to make sure their premises are free of preventable dangers. When a property owner fails to meet this legal duty and a visitor gets injured as a result, the injured party may have grounds for a lawsuit against the property owner. These laws sometimes apply in cases of preventable shootings and stabbings at bars, nightclubs, and other businesses.

The owners of bars and nightclubs have a duty to provide adequate security in order to reduce the risk of violent crime. In some cases, the victims of bar violence may have a case for a lawsuit if the bar is found to have inadequate or negligent security. For example, the owner of a bar with a history of violence could possibly be considered negligent for failing to make efforts to improve security, such as hiring security guards and installing cameras.

The victims of preventable violent crime deserve financial compensation for the damages they’ve suffered due to the negligence of a property owner.
