Dutchtown High School Teacher Indicted by Ascension Parish Grand Jury

Dutchtown High School teacher Mark Ebrab has been arrested for allegedly exchanging inappropriate messages and photographs with several students from the school.

The 32-year-old was indicted the day before his arrest on one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile. However, prosecutors say this charge is a blanket count representing several allegations involving multiple Dutchtown High School students.

According to the indictment, these allegations date back to August of 2014. No specific details regarding the content of the messages and images is available at this time, but they were reportedly shared through social media.

Ebarb is an English teacher at Dutchtown and was previously involved with summer writing camps for incoming freshmen at the school. He also used to work for the St. John Primary/St. Theresa Middle Summer Camp in Gonzales. Additionally, he served as a lector and Eucharistic minister for Christ the King Parish in Baton Rouge.

Justice For School Sexual Misconduct Victims and Their Parents

As a former sex crimes prosecutor and current civil sexual assault victims lawyer, Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com has helped victims find justice in both criminal and civil courts. Here are some of Brian’s thoughts on the legal rights of school sexual misconduct victims and their families:

Sadly, sexual predators are often some of the most trusted members of their communties. We regularly see this in cases involving teachers and other school staff members committing terrible crimes against students. Our schools must stay vigilant in making sure their students are safe from the threat of sexual abuse.

When students report sexual misconduct involving a teacher, the allegations must be taken seriously and reported to the authorities. Additionally, the school should be investigated to determine if a form of negligence opened the door for abuse to occur – such as ignoring previous complaints of sexual misconduct involving the teacher. In cases that involve negligence, the victims and their parents may have grounds for a lawsuit against the school.
