Legal Options Available to Victims of Bar Stabbings and Their Families

Attorney contributor Brian Kent of crimevictim.Attorney specializes in bar stabbing victims in civil cases. Below we have asked him to contribute some of his legal insight to bar stabbing victims and their families in order to help them better understand the legal options at hand:

“What these victims should first know is that bar and other property owners for that matter must be able to guarantee the safety of their employees and customers on the premises. In order to do this, owners should provide adequate security measures, which includes things like video surveillance, security guards at the door, and metal detectors. Of course, adequate security is not limited to these means, but when adequate security is not supplied at all, the victim may be able to bring a lawsuit against the property owner if they have suffered injuries. The idea behind this is that the property owner’s negligence may have played a role in the violent crime inflicted upon the victim and thus the owner may be held liable as a result.”

“Furthermore, a victim should also understand that their attorney is going to need more than just inadequate security to go off of. The crime must be proven to have been reasonably foreseeable as well. For example, if a bar owner learns that crime is rising in the area, deliberately choose to not upgrade security, and then someone becomes a victim of a stabbing on site, he or she may be then held liable for the crime. Ultimately, inadequate security and a reasonably foreseeable crime must be shown for the victim to have a valid lawsuit against the property owner.

If you or someone you know has questions regarding a bar stabbing, it is urgent to speak with an experienced attorney immediately. Please feel free to reach out to one of our attorneys who specializes in bar stabbing victims today!
