Former School Nurse Accused of Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Abuse of Students at Todd Beamer High School

Lawyer Commentary: Continue reading in the second section of this story for legal commentary from Brian Kent – a lawyer for students sexually abused by school nurses and other school employees.

A former school nurse for Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way was arrested in January for allegedly engaging in sexual misconduct with at least three students and is accused of driving a 15-year-old female student off-campus, where he allegedly sexually abused her.

51-year-old Mark David Glenn was contracted through a third-party company called Career Staff Unlimited. He has been charged with rape of a child in the third degree, sexual misconduct with a minor in the second degree, and communication with a minor for immoral purposes.

Court documents say that Glenn was fired in September 2019 after a student told administrators that he made inappropriate comments towards her and asked her to take off her pants to apply a bandage to her leg. Beamer High School’s assistant principal contacted Career Staff Unlimited and that company told administrators that Glenn had been fired.

Police started investigating Glenn in October 2019 after a student told the new school nurse that Glenn had inappropriately touched her in the nurse’s office several different times and that the two communicated through an online messaging app.

The same student told police in April that Glenn drove her to a location near Wild Waves Theme and Water Park, where he sexually abused her. She was 15 years old at the time.

Police found another victim during this investigation who told them that Glenn made comments regarding her appearance and attempted inappropriately touch her at the school.

Legal Rights for Victims of Sexual Abuse in Schools

Attorney contributor Brian Kent is a dedicated sex abuse victim lawyer who represents victims and their families in civil lawsuits. Brian has offered to share some of his knowledge on the legal rights of students who have been sexually abused by school nurses and other school employees:

School officials have a legal and moral duty to make sure their students are as safe as possible. Sadly, because of the fact that sexual predators are sometimes found working in schools, protections against sexual abuse are a key part of this legal duty. When a school nurse or other employee is charged with sexual crimes against students, it’s important to investigate whether the school met this legal duty.

Some incidents of student sex abuse happen partly due to negligence by school officials. For example, a school might be considered negligent if administrators were aware of past inappropriate behavior or sexual misconduct by an employee but failed to investigate or report complaints they received. In cases involving negligence, student sex abuse victims and their families may have grounds for a lawsuit against the school.

If you or your child is a victim of school sex abuse, you can learn more about your legal rights by discussing your case with one of our experienced sex abuse victim lawyers.
