A serious crash in Escambia County resulted in the death of a man from Pensacola and left a woman critically injured on Thursday afternoon, per a report by WKRG.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the 41-year-old man was driving with a female passenger when they approached the U.S. 98 intersection on Aileron Avenue. Despite stopping at the sign, he failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
At that moment, an 18-wheeler traveling east on U.S. 98 approached the intersection. The truck driver attempted to avoid a collision but unfortunately struck the driver’s side of the car. The force of the crash propelled both vehicles east, off the roadway near Erin Drive.
Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. The woman was airlifted to a trauma center for urgent medical attention. Fortunately, the truck driver did not sustain any injuries. U.S. 98 remained closed for approximately three hours as officials investigated the crash.

In the aftermath of catastrophic accidents involving 18-wheelers, victims often face overwhelming challenges. To better understand the legal avenues available for those injured or killed in such incidents, we spoke with seasoned personal injury lawyer Michael Haggard. With years of experience in handling complex truck accident cases, he offers valuable information on the rights of victims and the steps to take in the pursuit of compensation.
Editor Darla Medina: What legal options do victims have in cases like this?
Attorney Michael Haggard: Victims can pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. If the accident involved negligence, such as a failure to follow traffic laws, there's often a strong case for liability.
Medina: How important is it for victims to consult a lawyer immediately after an accident?
Haggard: It's vital. Evidence can deteriorate quickly, and an attorney can help gather necessary documentation and witness statements while they’re still fresh. Early intervention strengthens the case significantly.
Medina: Are there specific factors that can complicate these cases?
Haggard: Yes, truck accidents can involve multiple parties, including the truck driver, trucking company, and insurance providers, making the legal landscape more complex. A skilled lawyer can navigate these challenges more effectively.
