Liability For Drunk Driving Accidents in Michigan
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of CrimeVictim.Attorney helps drunk driving accident victims and their families recover the financial compensation they need and deserve. We’ve asked him to add some input into the options for legal recourse available to DUI accident victims in Michigan:
In Michigan, like all other states, those who are injured in alcohol-related accidents (and the families of fatal accident victims) may file a personal injury lawsuit (or wrongful death lawsuit) against the intoxicated individual who caused the accident. Michigan is also one of several states with “dram shop” laws that allow these victims to file lawsuits against alcohol vendors in cases where their providing of alcohol was a foreseeable cause of the accident and injuries.
According to Michigan’s dram shop laws, alcohol vendors can be held liable for alcohol-related injuries if they provided alcohol to the person who caused the accident, and that person was either under age 21 or already visibly intoxicated.
Assigning third-party liability for a DUI accident is a complicated process. In order to fully understand your legal options and recover the full financial compensation you’re entitled to as the victim of a drunk driver, we advise speaking with an experienced drunk driving accident victims lawyer.
