A school bus driver in Montgomery County has been taken into custody following allegations of child sexual assault, according to ABC 13.
Deputies responded to a report of a sexual assault involving a child in the 10000 block of Royal Duaine Drive in Conroe on Thanksgiving, shortly after 3 p.m. Following the report, detectives initiated an investigation that led them to identify and arrest 38-year-old Jonathan Cranfill.
Cranfill is currently employed as a school bus driver for Cleveland Independent School District and has previously worked for Conroe Independent School District. Authorities emphasized that the investigation indicates no connection between his employment and the alleged offense.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Cranfill is currently being held in jail as the investigation progresses. Further details are expected as detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the case.

As the community grapples with the shocking arrest of a Montgomery County school bus driver for child sexual assault, many are left wondering about the legal pathways available to victims. In this discussion, we speak with experienced sexual abuse lawyer Anjali Nigam, who outlines the options that victims sexually abused by a bus driver can explore to seek accountability and support in the aftermath of such incidents.
Darla Medina (Editor): Thank you for joining us today, Anjali. Given the recent arrest of Jonathan Cranfill, what legal options are available for victims of abuse in cases like this?
Anjali Nigam (Attorney): Thank you for having me, Darla. Victims have several avenues through which they can seek justice. Primarily, they can file criminal charges against the perpetrator, which is what we are seeing in this case with the ongoing investigation by the sheriff's office.
Medina: What about civil claims? How do those work?
Nigam: Victims can also pursue civil claims against the perpetrator and potentially the school district. In cases where employers fail to protect children, schools can be held liable for damages, especially if negligence is proven.
Medina: Are there any time limits for victims to come forward?
Nigam: Yes, Texas has specific statutes of limitations for sexual abuse cases. It's advisable for victims to seek legal counsel as soon as possible to understand their rights and options.
