Legal Options Available to Victims of Parking Lot Shootings

Brian Kent is an attorney contributor at https://crimevictim.Attorney represents violent crime victims in civil lawsuits. Below, Mr. Kent has shared his knowledge on legal options available to victims and their families injured or killed in parking lot shootings.

Legally, commercial property owners must protect their patrons and employees from any preventable dangers. Therefore, property owners must have adequate security on their premises. If a property owner does not provide adequate security, and a crime such as a shooting occurs due to their negligence, then the victims may have grounds for a lawsuit against the property owner.

However, inadequate security is not the only aspect necessary for a security negligence lawsuit. In order for a property owner to be held liable for violent crime on their property, the crime must have been reasonably foreseeable. For example, if a shooting occurs at a property with a prior history of violent crime, but no security improvements were made, then the shooting may be deemed reasonably foreseeable. Essentially, not only does inadequate security need to be the cause of the shooting, but in order for a property owner to be seen as liable for a crime, it must be deemed reasonably foreseeable.

Please contact an experienced crime victim attorney to discuss your case if you or a loved one have been victim to a parking lot shooting.
