Can Business Owners Be Responsible For Violent Crime on Their Properties?

Attorney contributor Brian Kent of https://crimevictim.Attorney works closely with parking lot shooting victims and their families to ensure they receive the financial compensation that they deserve.

“A commercial property owner must fulfill their legal duty of keeping all people who visit their property safe from preventable dangers. To uphold this duty, property owners must provide adequate security to reduce the risk of violent crime on their premises. If a property owner fails to provide adequate security and a shooting occurs on their property due to negligent security, then the bar owner may be held liable”, stated Mr. Kent.

He continued: “Additionally, a victim’s lawyer must prove that the violent crime was reasonably foreseeable. For instance, if a shooting occurs in a parking lot with a prior history of criminal violence and inadequate security measure in place, the parking lot owner may be seen as negligent. Every parking lot shooting case is unique, but in instances of negligence the victims may have grounds for a lawsuit against the property owner.”

If you or a loved one have been victim to a parking lot shooting it is best to speak with an experienced crime victim lawyer.
