Cherokee High School Teacher Arrested For Alleged Sexual Relationship with Student
Police in Cherokee County arrested a teacher at Cherokee County High School on Wednesday for allegedly being involved in a sexual relationship with a student at the school.
25-year-old Jack Eisenman has been charged with sexual assault by a teacher and is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond. He worked as an English teacher and the head soccer coach for the boy’s soccer team.
School officials sent a letter to families concerning the arrest. The school says that they discovered the relationship after someone contacting them with an anonymous tip earlier in the week. Eisenman was placed on immediate leave after his arrest.
The Cherokee County School Police Department is in charge of this case.
Justice For Survivors of Sexual Abuse by School Employees
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com has helped survivors of sexual violence find justice in both criminal and civil courts. After many years as a sex crimes prosecutor, Brian now represents these survivors in civil suits. Here are some of his thoughts on how victims of sexual abuse by teachers and other school employees can find justice:
In any field that involves working with children, it’s critical to make sure employees and volunteers are trustworthy people. Unfortunately, sexual predators often seek out these positions of trust. School administrators can help protect against the risk of abuse through preventative measures like thorough background checks and proper training and supervision. Additionally, our schools must take allegations of sexual misconduct by teachers and other employees extremely seriously.
When a teacher sexually abuses students, it’s important to determine if the school met their legal obligation to keep their students safe. In some cases, negligence on the part of the school district (such as a lack of the preventative measures mentioned above) allows sexual abuse to occur. In such cases, the victims and their families may have grounds for a lawsuit against the school district.
