Mother, 3 Young Children Hit by Drunk Driver in Crosswalk at Naval Ave and 11th Street

A mother and her three young children were injured when they were struck by an alleged drunk driver while crossing the street on Thursday morning in Bremerton. The four family members were crossing at a marked crosswalk at the intersection of 11th Street and Naval Avenue at the time of the collision.

Police responded to the scene at around 8:30 a.m. after receiving reports of multiple pedestrians being hit by a vehicle. Officers found the mother and three children – ages 3, 4, and 6 – at the scene. All four were injured and were brought to Harrison Medical Center in stable condition. The severity of their injuries is not available at this time.

According to a preliminary police investigation, the mother was pushing a double stroller with two children and crossing 11th street at a crosswalk while another child walked with her when a minivan driving east on 11th Street struck them.

The driver of that minivan, a 27-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of DUI while police get a search warrant for a blood test. According to investigators, the driver ran through a red light.

The intersection of 11th Street and Naval Avenue was shut down during the investigation into this crash.

Financial Compensation for People Injured by Drunk Drivers in Washington

Attorney contributor Brian Kent of CrimeVictim.Attorney represents people who have been injured by drunk drivers in civil lawsuits. Brian has offered to share some knowledge regarding the legal rights of those who have been hit by drunk drivers in the state of Washington:

If you’ve been injured in a car accident caused by a drunk driver, you may have grounds for a personal injury lawsuit against that person. But in Washington and several other states, your options for financial compensation may not end there. In some situations, people who have been injured by drunk drivers may also have grounds for a “dram shop” lawsuit against the alcohol vendor who served the driver before the crash.

According to Washington’s dram shop law, alcohol vendors can be sued for injuries caused by their customers if the customer was either under 21 years of age or was visibly intoxicated when they were served alcohol.

If you or a loved one has been hit by a drunk driver, you can learn more about your family’s legal options by contacting an experienced sex abuse victims lawyer.
