Legal Recourse For Victims of Shopping Mall Stabbings

Brian Kent is an attorney contributor at crimevictim.Attorney who represents violent crime victims and their families in civil cases. Below Mr. Kent has shared his insight on the legal options available to these victims.

Mr. Kent explain, “All commercial property owners are obligated by law to protect their patrons and employees from any reasonably foreseeable dangers. In order to successfully fulfill this duty, property owners must provide adequate security. If a shopping mall owner does not provide adequate security and a stabbing occurs due to their negligence, then he or she may be held partially liable.”

“In addition, property owners should be aware of their property’s history of criminal violence, and adjust security measures if necessary. If a stabbing occurs on a property with a large history of violent crime in the area, and no security improvements were put in place, then the stabbing may be deemed reasonably foreseeable. Overall, if a reasonably foreseeable crime occurs on a commercial property due to inadequate security, then the victim of that crime may have grounds for a lawsuit against the property owner”, concludes Mr. Kent.

If you or someone you loved has experienced something similar to the incident above, you can speak with a crime victim attorney to discuss the legal options available to you.
