Elementary schools are supposed to be a safe environment for children to learn and play. Basic security measures should be put in place by schools and school districts. These include security cameras in common areas and a proper procedure for reporting misconduct. However, it is necessary for background checks to be conducted on all teachers, coaches and staff. If basic safety procedures have been neglected by the school or school district, a civil lawsuit could be brought against them.
If an elementary school teacher is arrested for child sex crimes, an investigation should be done. Too often school sex abuse is due to the neglect of the school or failure to implement sufficient safety measures. Furthermore, the school could be held liable if reports of sexual misconduct were not properly processed. School sexual abuse victims should speak with an experienced attorney to learn their best course of legal action.
