Atlanta Police Searching For Suspect in Shooting at The Ivory
Atlanta police are currently searching for the gunman who shot a man outside of the Ivory, a popular Atlanta nightclub, in the early hours of Thursday, October 4. According to the police, a fight broke out inside of the club at around 4 a.m. and eventually poured out into the parking lot. A man was shot in the leg during the altercation in the parking lot and transported to Grady in stable condition.
According to witnesses, a black male in a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt ran away from the scene towards Northside Drive and was picked up in a dark-colored SUV.
While officers were investigating, a white sedan drove up to the front of the club and fired several shots before speeding away. No one was struck by a bullet.
The Atlanta Police have said that they’re struggling to retrieve surveillance video from the nightclub and have asked witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.
When Are Nightclub Owners Liable For Shootings and Stabbings?
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of CrimeVictim.Attorney helps violent crime victims recover the financial compensation they deserve from negligent business owners. We’ve asked him to add some information on nightclub owner liability for shootings and other violent crimes:
When we go out for a night at a bar or nightclub, we should have an expectation that we will be safe. The owners of these establishments have a legal obligation to maintain the safety of their premises, which includes protecting against the risk of foreseeable violent crime. But sometimes, negligent or inadequate security creates conditions that allow a preventable violent crime to take place.
If a shooting or stabbing occurs at a bar or nightclub due to poor security or another form of property owner negligence, the owner of the establishment could be held liable if the victims of the crime decide to file a lawsuit.
Determining property owner negligence for a shooting or stabbing is complicated. If you or someone you love has recently become the victim of a violent crime, you can learn more about your family’s legal options by speaking to an experienced crime victim attorney.
