Legal Recourse For Victims of Sex Abuse in Psychiatric Treatment Centers

Attorney contributor Brian Kent is a former sex crimes prosecutor and one of the founders of AbuseGuardian.com – a national alliance of sex abuse victims lawyers. Brian has a few thoughts to add concerning the legal options available to psychiatric treatment facility abuse victims and their families:

Organizations and facilities that work with vulnerable clients must have adequate measures for keeping those clients safe from preventable dangers. This legal duty to protect clients also includes protections against preventable sexual assaults. When a client is sexually assaulted at a youth psychiatric facility, it’s important to ask if the assault was preventable and how it may have been prevented.

For example, a facility could be considered negligent for failing to report previous allegations of sexual abuse law enforcement in a timely manner. In cases that involve negligence, the victims and their families may have a case for a lawsuit against the facility.

If you or a loved one is a victim of sexual abuse at a youth psychiatric facility, our veteran sexual assault lawyers can help you understand your legal options in a free consultation.
