A former dual enrollment instructor from Alvin Community College, located at 3110 Mustang Rd, Alvin, TX 77511, has been arrested in connection with serious allegations related to child sex crimes, according to ABC 13.
The Pearland Independent School District (ISD) acknowledged that the instructor, Erik Neel, was contracted to teach at both Turner College and Career High School and Dawson High School. Parents have expressed deep concern about the allegations. One mother, whose child attended Neel's class last year, described her worries, highlighting the impact of such news on families.
According to the Pearland Police Department, Neel was taken into custody as part of a broader investigation. He faces multiple charges, including online solicitation of a minor and two counts of possession of computer-generated child pornography and sexual conduct. Authorities noted that during the investigation, Neel believed he was communicating with an individual below the age of 15.
While neither Pearland ISD students nor their families were directly implicated in the allegations, the district is cooperating fully with the police investigation. A statement from Pearland ISD stressed their commitment to the safety and well-being of students and staff, confirming that they have reported the matter to relevant state agencies.
Alvin Community College also stated that Neel is no longer affiliated with the institution, reaffirming that student safety remains a top priority. Neel is currently being held at the Brazoria County Jail, with bail set at $450,000.

In the aftermath of the troubling sexual misconduct allegations against a college instructor, many in the community are seeking answers about their rights and legal options. To explore these concerns, we spoke with Anjali Nigam, an experienced sexual abuse lawyer in Texas. Nigam offers her perspective on the steps families should take, the potential avenues for legal recourse, and how schools can improve safety protocols to protect students.
Editor Darla Medina: What steps should victims of sexual abuse or their families consider taking in a situation like this?
Attorney Anjali Nigam: First and foremost, it's important for victims to seek support, whether that involves counseling or contacting a trusted adult. Legally, they can report the incident to authorities if they haven’t done so already. Additionally, consulting with an attorney can help them understand their rights and navigate the legal landscape.
Medina: What legal actions could victims pursue against individuals like Neel or the institutions involved?
Nigam: Victims may have options for both criminal and civil actions. Filing a lawsuit could provide them with the avenue to seek damages for any harm suffered. They can also push for accountability on the part of the institution if negligence can be proven.
Medina: How can awareness around these issues promote better safety protocols in schools?
Nigam: Raising awareness is crucial. It can lead to strengthened policies and procedures aimed at preventing abuse, ensuring that schools prioritize student safety more effectively.
